The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to help an individual identify their personality preferences, strengths and weaknesses. The test, often used as a precursor to choosing a career, is based on the theories established by Carl. Jung, a Swiss pychiatrist whose work emphasized the unconscious. The results of the MBTI will show the four preferences that make up your personality type. With four pairs of preferences, there are 16 possible personality types:
- Extraversion or Introversion (E or I)
- Sensing or Intuition (S or N)
- Thinking or Feeling (T or F)
- Judging or Perceiving (J or P)
Some types are more common than others, and studies have been done to determine the breakdown in percentages of the MBTI types in the general population.
