Some basics for those who'd like to know more about Smallbusiness.com

  • Please create a User page: Here's how. We're in the process of making it much easier to create a user page. If you've ever contributed to Wikipedia, you'll understand how it works, however, we're making it simple enough for the non-geeky (like us) to create a page, as well. Note that we've recently added a new feature that will allow you to display an RSS feed on your User page. For example, if you have a weblog, you can display headlines from your weblog on your User page.
  • The appropriate way to use Smallbusiness.com to promote yourself and your business: Please customize your User page with information about yourself and your business. Here's my User page, for example. While we discourage (prohibit) users from including overt promotional or commercial messages in your contributions to Smallbusiness.com, we encourage you to promote yourself and your business on your User page. Feel free to include an image of your logo or product and you are encouraged to include links to relevant weblogs or websites. However, as with other pages on Smallbusiness.com, do not use your profie page for link spamming (posting long lists of URLs in the attempt to influence search engine results). It doesn't work and the spamming will be removed and your user account will be blocked. Link spamming is PROHIBITED.
  • How to see which users have contributed to a specific page: Click on the history link of any page and you will see who has contributed to that page. (We're working on a new feature that will add a list of all contributors to the bottom of each page.)
  • You can find more tips on the General help page.
  • On our About Smallbusiness.com page, you can find a long list of answers to some Frequently Asked Questions I've received about the re-launching (softly started in January, 2006) of Smallbusiness.com.

Do you have any sample business forms or letters you'd like to share?

  • Please help us with this new feature: We're starting work on building a collection of open-source business forms and letters. If you have created or control the copyright to a sample form or letter and would like to share it with other users of Smallbusiness.com, please visit our new Forms category.

Welcome

Thanks for dropping by. We've added the Community Portal to Smallbusiness.com so those who are adding to the site can learn from one another. If you are familiar with the community features of the software MediaWiki (the software used at Wikipedia.org), then you'll recognize that we are running on that platform. You'll find some helpful tips on getting started using the wiki-tools on our general help page. Everyone who visits Smallbusiness.com can share their knowledge with others. We're going to use this page (and others) as a means to alert you to new ways to do so -- and to let you know of new features and updates. - Rex
